Commentary on Dickinson Man Truck Accident in Dunn County

Folks are already inclined to assume that a single-vehicle wreck was automatically the driver's fault. Reports saying that driver didn't have their seatbelt on is only going to make people more likely to write off this tragedy. But whatever the most likely explanation is here, it's important to also consider simply would could have happened.

Take for example the details about the man not wearing his seatbelt. I've seen examples where police say this, and they're just wrong. While relatively uncommon, manufacturing issues can cause seatbelts to break or come undone when they're most needed. I've even seen cases where an entire seat assembly was thrown from the vehicle with the driver still in the chair.

without thorough investigations, this sort of thing can easily slip through the cracks. That's why I tend to rely on independent accident reconstructionists who can give these possibilities the attention they deserve regardless of whether or not they're likely.
