Commentary on John Darnell Accident in Waxahachie

After solo wrecks like this it's much too easy for people to decide the injured driver is to blame. Folks--police investigators sometimes among them--fall prey to the temptation to just blame the whole thing on carelessness or speeding, never considering that there could be more to the story.

Is it possible things went just as reports say? Of course; speeding is a leading cause of single-vehicle crashes. However, investigators must consider other possible explanations as well in case the wreck was actually out of the driver's hands. Bad road conditions, poor visibility, vehicle malfunctions, medical emergencies...plenty of reasons for a crash exist outside driver mistakes.

Little as I like saying it, I'm sometimes skeptical that authorities will be thorough enough to account for those and other possibilities. Budget and time constraints, other "more urgent" priorities, a lack of training or equipment, and other issues can keep a by-the-book police investigation from hitting all the important points before wrapping up. That's why it's important to understand what might get overlooked after a crash like this and seek out allies who'll make sure everything gets proper attention. Click below to learn more.
