Three Injured, One Charged in Car vs. House Accident on Wilshire in Midland, TX

Midland, TX -- August 21, 2022, three people were injured after an accident where a vehicle crashed into a house on Wilshire Drive.

Authorities reported that the crash took place along Wilshire Drive late Sunday. It appears a vehicle driving along the road somehow ran off-road where it crashed through a home.

Due to the collision, a passenger in the vehicle and two people in the home were taken to area hospitals. Authorities identified the driver as 26-year-old Adam Dutchover. They allege that Dutchover was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Car vs. House Accident on Wilshire in Midland

It's always serious when authorities think alcohol contributed to a crash. They seem to be taking steps to see there are consequences, but is that really the whole story? Oftentimes, drivers are not the only ones responsible for a drunk driving wreck. There is often a local alcohol provider, as well.

Put simply, Texas dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Bars, restaurants, liquor stores, gas stations--these businesses have rules to follow. When they break these rules, and people get hurt, holding them accountable can both assist the victims and families as well as hold those negligent businesses accountable for their actions.

Maybe nothing like that applies to this specific wreck, but my concern is authorities may not even be looking into it. It often takes more thorough independent investigations to explore possibilities like dram shop, and the same could prove true here, as well.
