Austin, TX — August 17, 2022, a local resident of Austin's Circle C Ranch community was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run.

Reports say the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of South Bay Lane and Way Lane. Preliminary investigation suggests the victim, known for taking walks around the neighborhood, was on foot in the area when a vehicle--believed to be a dark-colored Toyota sedan, possibly a Corolla or Camry--struck her and then left the scene without stopping.

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries in the collision.

The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.

Commentary on Sandra Nielsen Hit-and-Run in Circle C Ranch

It's hugely frustrating to see reports like this, and I'd imagine folks in Austin and every other Texas community are sick of people hurting locals and then taking off without owning up to what they did. That's why in many cases locals cooperate with police and give any useful information they can to help track down runaway drivers.

If law enforcement keeps any new details and developments in the public eye, someone will often use them to spot the suspect and/or their vehicle. Police may not have many details to offer yet about this specific hit-and-run, but an approximate make and model is a start. Hopefully further investigation will find traffic or doorbell camera footage, witnesses, or even debris with trackable serial numbers that will help them narrow the search. Providing that information to the public will help someone--a friend, family member, coworker, or even just a stranger--identify the vehicle and call a tip line.

When (and I say when, not if) the driver is located, hopefully police can find out more about why they ran and what can be done for the victim's loved ones. I remain hopeful continued efforts will lead to a resolution for this tragic event.
