Commentary on Truck, Train Accident on Sierra Street in Kingsburg

Folks see a train collision and tend to jump to conclusions. It's understandable why. There aren't many things a train can do wrong in a situation like this. But that doesn't mean we should just blame the victim and move on. There could be extenuating circumstances to consider.

Maybe the crossing arms malfunctioned. Maybe the resulting fire had less to do with the collision and more to do with negligent placement of the fuel tanks by the manufacturer. This could be the result of a medical emergency or perhaps actions from a negligent employer. Common or not, it's important investigators are experienced enough to consider all of these possibilities. Otherwise, authorities may allow crucial details to slip through the cracks.
