Commentary on Francisco Flores Accident on 91 Fwy in Anaheim
As investigators work to fill in the blanks of what happened here and why, it's best not to try and guess from the sidelines. There are still many possibilities to evaluate: Common driver mistakes like distraction or speeding, problems or defects in the vehicles, road conditions and design, visibility and sightlines, missing or unclear signage, bad weather, traffic patterns in the area, and many other things that could have influenced or even caused the wreck.
It's always important to account for all the potential variables, which is why it's also important not to jump to conclusions before that's done. I've seen too many folks read a vague news report and make up their minds right away, only for more facts to surface and change their minds completely. Of course, a standard police investigation might not find all those facts before finishing up.
After a major accident like this, an independent investigation usually stands a better chance of learning the real story--including the subtle but critical details that police sometimes overlook. Whatever the truth turns out to be, everyone involved and affected deserves all the answers they can get. Those answers would also help determine what other steps, if any, should be taken.
