Jamal Mustapha Killed in Hit-and-run Accident in Worcester, MA

Worcester, MA -- August 13, 2022, Jamal Mustapha was killed following an accident where a vehicle struck him along the interstate.

In initial reports, authorities said that the incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. along I-290 near Exit 20.

Authorities say they got reports of a pedestrian on the roadway. They later identified the pedestrian as 27-year-old Jamal Mustapha. At some point, it appears that a vehicle hit Mustapha, then left the scene. Authorities said that vehicle could be a tractor-trailer, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Due to the collision, Mustapha sustained fatal injuries. Investigations are ongoing at this time.

It's always concerning to see someone leave the scene like this, especially given the possibility it was a commercial driver who may be out there continuing to driver reckless. That said, it's possible this was just a tragic mistake, though that wouldn't change the importance of finding the driver that left the scene, if only for closure's sake. One important step folks can take is to simply keep the details in the public eye. Someone is bound to connect the dots and come forward with information police can use. I remain hopeful this man's loved ones will see a resolution in time.
