Commentary on Three-Vehicle Crash in Dickinson

I'm not coming down on police for not having everything neatly tied up so soon after this accident, but that does mean reports are a little light on useful information. How and why did those cars crash? Did one or more drivers just make a mistake, or is there more to the story? Were the roads bad there? What was the weather like? Lighting? Sightlines? Was everyone awake, alert, and paying attention? Are police concerned that anyone might have been intoxicated? Are there any clues about why one person ran away? Can anyone involved in the wreck offer more insights?

I don't mean to rapid-fire questions here, but at the same time I can't be the only frustrated by the skimpy nature of current news reports. When people are hurt in a wreck it's important to learn not only what happened, but also how and why things went that way. That means investigating carefully and thoroughly and making sure only facts tell the whole story. Will law enforcement give this matter that kind of time and attention, or should independent investigators take another look?
