Commentary on Curtis Wesley Lyons Truck Fire Accident in Charlotte

As often as people like to call me "anti-trucker" due to my long career handling truck wreck cases, I seem to be the only one who ever talks about these kinds of truck accidents. Folks tend to see these as just some reckless trucker getting themselves hurt. Is that what happened here, or was the victim subject to factors beyond his control?

One thing to consider here is that the fire seems to be the most serious factor. Why did that fire start, and was that reasonable? Some things can cause fires that are perfectly logical--high speed impacts, for example. Other times, however, a fire like this can be the result of a truck manufacturer putting fuel tanks in a dangerous spot that leaves them unnecessarily exposed and at risk of bursting into flames. Did that happen here, and are investigators experienced in these subjects handling things? If not, there may need to be more thorough investigations to ensure the victim is getting the answers he deserves.
