Commentary on Louanne Etheridge Cantrell Car Accident in Amarillo

With a crash like this, it's easy enough for folks to assume the driver put at fault is held accountable, and that's that. In reality, things aren't always so simple. A colleague of mine brought up a perfect example just the other day.

A woman hit the back of a semi truck, and police pretty much called it open-and-shut. But when looked into more thoroughly, the woman's injuries ended up being way too severe given the relatively moderate collision. So what went wrong? As it turned out, she actually had a defective airbag. With a proper one, she likely would have had some simple scrapes and bruises.

While that sort of thing isn't exactly common, it goes to show that police reports alone often overlook important factors. Ensuring there are more thorough independent investigations can help bring to light what authorities may have let slip through the cracks. Would that reveal anything new about this crash?
