Four Killed in Crossover Crash after Chase on US-285 near Sanderson, TX

Sanderson, TX — August 15, 2022, four people died after a high-speed police chase ended in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 285 near Sanderson.

Reports say the incident happened around sundown on US-90 just east of town, which sits roughly 230 miles west of San Antonio. Preliminary investigation suggests a state trooper attempted to stop a crew-cabbed pickup truck when the driver sped away. The trooper gave chase through Sanderson and north onto US-285; at some point the crew-cab veered left of center and crashed into an oncoming pickup. Both vehicles then caught fire.

Two men in the fleeing truck and two in the other pickup died at the scene. A female passenger in the fleeing truck was airlifted to an Odessa hospital.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is currently available.
