Commentary on Arlington Car Accident at Bowen and Sublett

It's not clear yet how this crash happened or what started it. Until evidence clearly answers those and other questions, it's best not to jump to any conclusions.

Police still have to look into many potential factors here: Driver mistakes like distraction, failure to yield, or intoxication, problems or defects in the two vehicles, road conditions and intersection design, visibility and lighting, missing or unclear signage, weather and traffic patterns, and many other things that could have influenced or even caused the crash.

It's always important to consider all the variables before drawing any conclusions. I've seen too many folks read a few vague sentences in the news and make up their minds right away, only for more information to come out and totally change their perspective. The same could happen here, though a "by the book" police investigation also might not connect all the dots before it's over.

After a major accident, an independent investigation usually stands a better chance of learning the real story--including the smaller details that police sometimes overlook. Whatever the truth turns out to be, everyone involved and affected deserves all the answers they can get. Those answers would also help determine what other steps, if any, should be taken.
