Commentary on Allen Patton Truck Accident in Sarpy County

It's not clear what happened here, but I have concerns about the investigations simply due to the victim being a motorcyclist. I've seen too often how quick people are to assume a motorcyclist did something wrong. If they let this bias cloud their judgment, they may overlook crucial details.

Not long ago, for example, I looked into a crash where police said a reckless motorcyclist hit a semi-truck. But when we conducted independent investigations, the evidence didn't line up. It turned out the investigating officer misinterpreted a witness's statements, thinking that the motorcyclist passing him was the witness describing the motorcyclist as speeding and weaving through traffic. Thanks to our efforts, we set the record straight and made sure it was clear that the victim did nothing wrong.

I'm not saying that anything like that is happening here. My point is simply that investigators aren't always as thorough as a family needs them to be. Taking steps to ensure the right people are looking into things can be crucial for getting answers and making sure families get the answers they deserve. Are those steps being taken here?
