Two Injured in Crossover Crash on Sam Rayburn Memorial Hwy in Anna, TX

Anna, TX — July 11, 2022, a 62-year-old man was seriously injured in a traffic accident on Sam Rayburn Memorial Highway in Collin County.

According to reports the incident happened around 7:25 p.m. Rayburn Tollway (State Highway 121) near County Road 507. Preliminary investigation suggests a Dodge Durango was traveling north on Rayburn as a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was towing a trailer south on the other side.

Reports say the Durango driver crossed left of center into the southbound lanes. The pickup driver tried to evade the oncoming SUV but the Durango's front crashed into the rear driver's side panel of the Ram.

The Durango driver suffered major injuries in the crash; the Ram's driver received minor injuries. Both were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Commentary on Crossover Accident on TX-121 in Anna

It doesn't seem from reports like police are quite sure how or why this crash happened. They noted the northbound driver crossed left of center, but the reason for that still isn't clear. Officers ventured a guess that he was under the influence of alcohol, but it's not clear if they found anything substantial to suggest that.

However, even the possibility of alcohol's involvement requires proper attention. That means finding finding out what role (if any) it played as well as tracking down where it was consumed. That second part is more important than people might realize because an alcohol vendor might be responsible for the victims' injuries under dram shop law.

I'm not saying alcohol was involved just because it was suggests as a possibility. It's just one of many that should be considered. Other things like vehicle defects or failures, road hazards, or even medical emergencies should also be accounted for. Taking steps to ensure a crash is properly understood is crucial for everyone affected by it, and I doubt the Collin County accident is the exception. Will police give the matter the care and time it deserves to be sure the whole story is known?
