Commentary on Chance Duncan Accident in Sherman

Police said the victim was speeding when he lost control. I have no specific reason to doubt that, but at the same time I can't help but wonder if it's really the whole story.

A driver should reasonably expect their vehicle to remain within their control up to certain speeds. Even if the victim exceeded the posted limit on the road that doesn't necessarily mean he was really traveling "lose control" speeds, and if the SUV swerved out when it shouldn't have then there may be more to this crash than basic driver error.

People have a tendency to blame almost any single-vehicle crash on a careless driver, but something else--something beyond the victim's control--is often actually to blame. It's important to consider those other factors during an investigation to be sure the true story is found. Click the image below to read more.
