Pedestrian Injured in Hit-and-run Accident on Forest Lane in Dallas, TX

Dallas, TX -- July 30, 2022, a pedestrian was injured as the result of an accident where a car hit them on Forest Lane, then left the scene.

Authorities reported that the incident took place at around 12:30 a.m. along Forest Lane between LBJ and Audelia Road.

Officials said that a man was walking at the time and was not in a crosswalk. While crossing, a Chevy hit the man, then reportedly left the scene.

The pedestrian sustained critical injuries due to the incident. Police say they later found and arrested the driver involved. No further information is available at this time.

It's at least encouraging to see that police believe they have the driver responsible for this in custody, but I wonder if they're getting the full story. The reasons drivers flee an accident scene are typically rather obvious--warrants, drugs, stolen vehicles, just simple panic. But another common factor that can complicate things is drunk driving. Did that happen here?

If so, then the driver may not be the only one who needs to be held accountable. Dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Could it be that a bar or restaurant in the area also contributed to these injuries? If so, ensuring the victim has the evidence and tools to hold them accountable is crucial.
