Commentary on Guillermo Correa Accident in Donna
The news gives a rough idea of what happened on Border Avenue, but right now nobody can really say why things went that way. Reading that the driver lost control "for unknown reasons" is clearly not enough to explain what happened or why a man's life was lost, and I have little doubt his loved ones would appreciate some clarification.
It's anyone's guess right now how the SUV traveled off the road and overturned. Did the driver fall asleep? Was he distracted looking at a phone? Speeding? Is it possible he was intoxicated? Or is something besides a driver mistake--something out of his hands--make the SUV go off-course? Other possibilities, from hazardous roads to poor visibility to vehicle defects, also deserve consideration in pursuit of the whole story.

The point isn't to overcomplicate things or accuse anyone. It's just crucial to consider all the potential explanations for a crash like this one instead of jumping to any conclusions. Even investigators sometimes fall victim to making assumptions or only looking for the most common factors, and sometimes that means they'll miss important details and get the story wrong. The victim's loved ones deserve to know that every effort was made to find the truth; any steps to take beyond that would depend on what that truth turns out to be.
