Commentary on Sandra Camp Accident in Early

One mistake I see a lot of people make is thinking that the information in preliminary news or police reports is really all there is to say about a crash. One person allegedly turned into the other's path, so what more could there be to know?

It's quite possible that a momentary but costly mistake is behind this accident, but as always I discourage jumping to conclusions before a full investigation has been conducted. Possible contributing factors like missing or improper signage, problems with visibility or sightlines, vehicle malfunctions, or even medical emergencies must also be considered, even if they're just ruled out.

The point isn't to complicate things or to twist them around so there's someone to blame. Not every accident has a "bad guy," but they all have important details--many of which get overlooked when investigators settle on an explanation they like and call it quits before the job's really done. At the very least the victim's loved ones deserve to know that no stone was left unturned. If there's anything else to do besides bring them answers, that will depend on what those answers are.
