Carling Mott Killed in Bicycle, Truck Accident in New York, NY

New York, NY -- July 26, 2022, Carling Mott was killed due to an accident where a semi-truck hit Mott who was on a bicycle.

Investigators reported that the crash took place at around 10:50 a.m. along East 85th Street at Madison Avenue.

According to officials, 28-year-old Carling Mott was on a Citi bicycle approaching a red light on East 85th. The truck was stopped at the light. After the light changed, something occurred which ended with Mott falling beneath the truck wheels. It's unclear if Mott fell or if the truck hit her.

Due to the accident, Mott sustained fatal injuries. Right now, additional details about the accident are unavailable.

New York has a ton of people, and it's unfortunately common for vehicles and bicycles to be forced into small spaces together. As such, something unique about accidents like this in New York is there are multiple blogs dedicated to bicycle and pedestrian advocacy. While these blogs can certainly be biased, they at least offer a counterpoint to many other people online who are quick to assume the victim must have done something wrong.

These blogs correctly point out that it's not really clear what happened here. Did the victim simply fall into the path of the truck? Did the truck drift into the victim?
