Commentary on Omar Alvarez Car Accident in McKinney

Folks tend to overlook single-vehicle accidents like this, assuming both that the driver something wrong and that police can handle things on their own. Maybe that's true here, but I've seen too many situations where authorities simply jumped to conclusions without considering all possible factors.

For example, many crashes with these facts end up being alcohol-related. A crucial part of those crashes is finding out if a local bar is liable under dram shop law for over-serving the driver. Authorities, however, rarely look into this on their own.

What's more, they rarely look into less common possible factors. Are mechanical defects common? Not at all, but they've caused deadly wrecks before. That's why ensuring investigators have the experience and tools to rule that out is so crucial. Right now, these reports make me skeptical steps are really being taken to get this driver the answers and the help they need.
