Harris County, TX -- July 14, 2022, Maria Palacios and Emnaly Lopez Reyes were injured due to an accident where their SUV crashed off-road.

Investigators reported that the crash took place at around 5:36 a.m. along Wortham Boulevard near Wortham Grove.

According to reports, 23-year-old Maria Palacios and 46-year-old Emnaly Lopez Reyes were in a Toyota Highlander traveling northbound along Wortham Boulevard. The vehicle somehow went off-road where it crashed into a tree.

Both Palacios and Lopez Reyes sustained incapacitating injuries due to the crash. No further information can be confirmed at this time.

A big challenge I face on this blog is discouraging people from jumping to conclusions about single-vehicle wrecks. They tend to just assume that the driver did something wrong. Is that likely? Certainly. Maybe they were on their phone or fatigued. Maybe they were intoxicated because a bar over-served them the night before, which could make that establishment responsible for the injuries. But does that mean it's okay to overlook less common factors, like mechanical issues or tire blowouts? Of course not. Getting people the help they need means letting the evidence speak for itself.
