Commentary on Truck Fire Accident on US 62 in Brown County
While it's not clear what happened here, any truck wreck resulting in a fire raises some red flags. While that can be an unavoidable result of some crashes, commercial trucks sometimes have a unique problem that the average motorist won't have to deal with. Put simply, many trucks have fuel tanks in a dangerous place simply because it's cheaper and more convenient for manufacturers. They've known the risks for years, but they have no legal requirement right now to make the trucks safer. But that doesn't mean they can't be held accountable for their negligence, which is why crashes like this almost always warrant more thorough investigations. Are those steps being taken here?
