Commentary on Rosendo Varela Accident near Dayton

Reports seem to have a fair handle on what happened here, but at the same time they don't shed much light on why things went that way. Why did the victim hit the back of the work truck? Was he awake, alert, and paying attention to the road? How fast were both vehicles traveling? Were both in good repair? What lane were they in? What was visibility like in that area? Were there any witnesses? Those are just a few of the many questions that must still be addressed.

I'm not trying to complicate things or point fingers here. I'm only saying that a few sentences in the news can't fully explain a fatal crash like this one. If for no other reason than to bring the victim's loved ones answers, someone should take a closer look. Law enforcement might still do that, but this wouldn't be the first time they just filed a vague report and moved on to the next thing. Should an independent investigation be conducted to ensure the whole story is known?
