Commentary on Elias Martinez Car Accident in San Antonio

After any serious crash involving police, I rarely see much information that's able to be confirmed unless something especially serious happens, such as people getting killed. That's why I find it's best to take reports like this with a grain of salt.

Maybe the victim made a mistake leading to the crash, or maybe the officer made a mistake. Maybe both of them did. Maybe neither of them did. Whatever happened here, a proper investigation needs to consider all the facts. Were there mechanical issues? What was visibility like? Was someone illegally over-served by a bar? Did a medical condition or fatigue play a role? Is this a stretch of road known for serious accidents?

Answering these questions can help to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks so folks know they're getting all the help they can get. It remains to be seen whether or not those steps are being taken here.
