Commentary on Jason Alvarez Car Accident in Johnson County

Something I talk about a lot on this blog is the importance of thorough independent investigations. Even in a situation like this, which may seem straight forward to some, can involve complex issues the authorities aren't used to handling.

For example, what if someone's seatbelt fails or some other part causes their injuries to be more severe than they ought to have been? Since authorities don't do much more than look at the scene and check for cell phone usage and alcohol, they tend to completely overlook those possibilities.

Those details can be crucial for getting people the help they need, so ensuring the crash is in the hands a prudent investigator that understands these possibilities can be a big step toward getting folks the help they need. I'm certainly not going to say anything like that happened here, but any way to ensure people know what next steps are available to them is something I think is important to the public.
