Commentary on Steven Duenas Accident in Port Arthur

Preliminary reports make this sound like the crash was mostly due to a brief moment of carelessness on the pickup driver's part. Maybe that's really all there is to it, but it's important to be sure there's no more to the story. What were visibility and sightlines like in that area? Was there any other traffic? How were weather and road conditions? Were both vehicles' operators awake, alert, and paying full attention to their surroundings?

Those questions and the many others like them that still need addressing aren't meant to point fingers or argue with police findings. I just know from long experience that many crashes have details that are never discovered, yet could have significantly changed how a crash was seen. That's why after any wreck I suggest a careful and thorough investigation to be sure all the facts are found. At the very least the victim's loved ones deserve to know no stone was left unturned in pursuit of the truth.
