Gary Holcombe Killed in Traffic Accident on I-90 in Summerset, SD

Summerset, SD — July 14, 2022, 66-year-old Gary Holcombe was critically injured in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 in Summerset.

According to reports the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. on I-90 near mile marker 50. Preliminary investigation suggests Holcome was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on the highway when he slowed to avoid a large box that fell off a Chevrolet Silverado ahead in the road. After the motorcycle slowed it was hit from behind by a GMC Sierra pickup with a utility trailer.

Holcombe, reportedly not wearing a helmet, was ejected in the collision and landed in the north ditch. He suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital, where he died on July 20.

The drivers of both pickups were reportedly charged with class-2 misdemeanors for their roles in the wreck.
