Commentary on Joshua Reyes Accident in Irving
Clearly this is a terrible tragedy. My heart goes to the family of that young man, and my voice joins theirs in calling for the hit-and-run driver either to turn himself in or be apprehended if he won't do the right thing.
Finding the suspect and taking him into custody is the top priority, but once he's there it's important that police learn everything they can about what happened in that accident. Did the suspect flee the racing event as police believe? If so, why? Was it a simple desire to avoid arrest, or was his decision-making compromised by something? Did he drink at the gathering? If so, who provided the alcohol?

That's only a handful of the many questions that must be answered while authorities look more closely at this event and its implications. Folks might limit their concerns to just the driver who hit the victims and ran, and it's crucial that young man (if he's the right suspect) faces justice. However, if anyone else arguably played a role in the loss of that young man's life then they too should be held accountable. That's why police must remain diligent and hopefully the community will provide any insights they can about where the suspect can be found. Once he's in custody hopefully more of the truth can be found and any further steps identified.
