Commentary on Reynaldo Gonzalez, Ollie Mae Gonzalez Truck Accident in Pharr

Folks often look at crashes like this and simply assume that everything will be open-and-shut. While things could be simple surrounding the crash itself, there are often barriers between folks and the help they need. That's where things can become overwhelming if they aren't prepared. Taking steps to anticipate those barriers often proves vital to overcoming them.

I had a crash not long ago, for example, where a trucking company refused to take responsibility even though it was obvious their driver had been on their phone. According to them, however, the driver didn't even have a phone. There was no chance I was buying that, but we had to put together a lengthy deposition and trip the driver up over his own stories to get him to come clean. Only then could we get a court order for the phone records, ultimately proving he had been watching pornography (yes, really) at the time of the crash.

Maybe nothing so ridiculous happened in this crash, but similar tactics almost always arise when companies are trying to avoid responsibility. Were steps taken here to ensure the victims can meet those tactics head-on and get the help they deserve?
