Commentary on Reginald Davis Accident in Manvel

Some folks may read the reported details of this accident and jump to some conclusions about what happened. After many single-vehicle wrecks they reflexively blame one or more of the most common factors like sleepy driving or distraction from a cell phone. Some might also suggest intoxication was a factor given how unfortunately often it's involved in sudden losses of driver control.

Investigators mentioned alcohol might have been a factor but were uncertain, but they may follow up on to be sure one way or the other. It's important to look into--not just to be sure of the facts, but also because a local business may have violated Texas dram shop law by over-serving the driver. If so that business might have a legal duty to help him get back on his feet.

However, impairment is only one of many possible issues to investigate. There are also less-common factors to consider like vehicular failures, tire blowouts, hazardous road or weather conditions, or even other drivers involved in the crash that left the area without stopping or rendering aid.

Until all the facts are obtained through a careful and thorough investigation, it's important to be patient and not jump to conclusions. At the very least, the victim deserves the benefit of the doubt as more dots are connected. If there are further steps to take here beyond just learning the truth, knowing so will depend on what that truth turns out to be.
