Investigations this early in their stages aren't likely to have much more information than what we're seeing here--which is to say little to no information. But whether or not steps are being taken to get clear answers can mean a lot more than just waiting around for the authorities. In fact, that can actually be harmful in some cases.

A while back, for example, a family came to us months after a crash with absolutely no word from the authorities. Once we got our hands on the reports, something concerning immediately came to light. It turned out the investigating officer was waiting for information from the trucking company, whom they allowed to take the truck's Engine Control Module from the scene, assuming they'd share their findings later on.

An oversight like that would be like a detective waiting on a burglary suspect to dust for fingerprints. I'm not here to say authorities can't be trusted or can't do their jobs. Many of them are more than competent, but their departments don't always provide them with the time and resources necessary to do their jobs properly. As a result, crucial details can slip through the cracks. That's why it's important victims and families take any possible steps to get the right people looking into things so they know they're going to get the answers they deserve.
