Commentary on Blakely Mitchell Truck Accident in Trigg County

With a crash like this, it's important that investigators have the experience, tools, and dedication to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks. Too often, I find that departments will simply have officers rush the reports and move on to other priorities. While that may work out in the common situations of someone being on their phone or speeding, the other, more complex possible factors can easily slip through the cracks.

What if there were mechanical defects? What if a tire blew out? What if some other reckless driver left the scene? What if this is a work vehicle the driver's employer wasn't properly maintaining? Even if something seems unlikely, ignoring other possible factors only further harms a family already in serious need of answers. That's why crashes like this are often better off in the hands of experienced independent investigators. Are those steps being taken here?
