Darian “DJ D Baby” Lewis Killed in Hotel Balcony Accident in Houston, TX

Houston, TX -- July 4, 2022, Darian "DJ D Baby" Lewis sustained fatal injuries after an accident on a hotel balcony.

Reports said that the incident happened at around 5:00 a.m. on the 13th floor of a downtown high-rise hotel.

It appears that 23-year-old Darian "DJ D Baby" Lewis was on the balcony and possibly on furniture when she somehow went over the railing. Lewis fell, sustaining injuries to which she succumbed roughly a week following the incident.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation. Reports suggest Lewis may have been intoxicated at the time, but this and other factors have yet to be confirmed.

Commentary on Darian Lewis Hotel Balcony Accident in Houston

To be clear up front, I'm not here to upset anyone or to drum up controversy. There are people saying all kinds of things about this tragedy, and it's not my place to speculate. One thing did stand out to me, however, and I just wanted to shed light on one possible explanation here that the public may not be considering: that alcohol was the cause of the accident.

Again, I am not at all suggesting I think this happened. It's simply that alcohol being brought up in the reports makes it important to find out to what degree alcohol contributed to the incident and where that alcohol came from. This is due to the fact that an establishment can be liable for a deadly accident if it was the result of them illegally over-serving someone.

This is due to dram shop law. Basically, it says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Whether that's a bar, liquor store, club, or even a restaurant, it's an important legal tool Texans have a right to not only to get some much needed help but to ensure those negligent businesses are held responsible for their role in a deadly accident.

Again, I'm not here to speculate. It's just that I often talk to people who never even knew that something like dram shop existed, and authorities never bothered looking into those possibilities. Whatever happened here, however likely or not something like dram shop may be, I at least hope steps are being take to consider this among the many possible factors surrounding this awful event. If nothing else, this woman's loved ones deserve to know the truth.
