Pearland, TX -- June 19, 2022, Timothy Jonas Garza and one other were injured after an accident where their vehicle crashed off-road.

Authorities reported that the crash took place at around 4:46 a.m. along Broadway Street in the area of Anthony Lane.

Officials said that 22-year-old Timothy Garza was driving a Mercedes-Benz along westbound lanes of Broadway. At the intersection, the vehicle ran off the side of the road, careened across the grass, and hit a business sign.

Garza had non-incapacitating injuries, reports say, while a 22-year-old woman in the vehicle had incapacitating injuries. Police mentioned alcohol as a factor in the crash, but these allegations cannot be confirmed at this time.

Commentary on Timothy Garza Car Accident in Pearland

To be clear up front, it's as important to take claims of drunk driving seriously as it is to take them with a grain of salt until there can be thorough investigations. At the end of the day, what matters is getting people the help they deserve, and those options can change drastically depending on the facts.

For example, if alcohol was indeed a factor, it could be that a local alcohol provider illegally over-served the driver. That means the business could be liable for the injuries under dram shop law. That's not the sort of thing authorities look into usually, so could that be a factor here?

Alternatively, it could be that further investigations show alcohol had nothing to do with the crash, and officers were just speculating. That could bring up anything from road hazards to mechanical defects to tire failures to fatigue to a medical emergency. Again, authorities aren't always as thorough as folks may think, so it's important steps are taken to ensure those involved in a serious crash know they're getting the full story and any opportunity to get the help they have the right to pursue.
