Motorcyclist Killed in Truck Accident on Major Deegan in The Bronx, NY

The Bronx -- July 7, 2022, one person was killed due to an accident where a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle crashed on Major Deegan Expy.

Initial reports about the crash say the incident took place at around 7:30 p.m. along the Major Deegan Expressway near the Mott Haven exit.

Officials did not say what exactly caused the crash. They said a motorcyclist, identified only as a 28-year-old man, was traveling northbound on the expressway. Reports say he was "zipping" along the road when a collision occurred with a tractor-trailer.

Due to the collision, the motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries. No other injuries were reported. No further information is available at this time.

It's obviously concerning when reports say that someone was "zipping" along an expressway, but I learned a long time ago to take reports like this with a grain of salt until there's some clear evidence. I had this crash a while back, for example, involving similar reports. A motorcyclist was apparently weaving and speeding when he hit the back of a tractor-trailer, dying as a result. His family asked us to look into things because they knew their loved one was an incredibly safe and responsible rider. We started digging, and it turned out police completely botched the investigations.

The evidence actually suggested that the 18-wheeler cut off the motorcyclist. Details of the motorcyclist being reckless apparently came from an eye witness. But when we spoke with the witness, he was shocked to see the reports. All he told the investigating officer was that the motorcyclist passed him on the left. Somehow, that officer, due to their inexperience and lazy investigating, misinterpreted that through their own bias against motorcyclists.

Had it not been for a careful, unbiased investigation into the facts, it's unclear if that family ever would have learned the truth. Maybe authorities here have been more thorough, but it's important steps are taken to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks.
