One Injured in Crash with 18-Wheeler on Carey Ave in Las Vegas, NV

Las Vegas, NV — July 9, 2022, a motorist was trapped and injured after crashing into the side of a tractor-trailer on Carey Avenue in North Las Vegas.

According to reports the incident happened shortly before 4:00 a.m. on Carey Ave near Rancho Drive, close to a Walmart entrance. It's not entirely clear what happened yet, but reports say an SUV crashed into the side of a semi-truck in the area.

After the impact the SUV driver was trapped in the vehicle until firefighters freed them. Once freed the driver was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The accident is currently under investigation. No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Truck Accident on Carey Ave in Las Vegas

News reports are unfortunately pretty vague about how this crash occurred, which I think many would agree is an important part of the story to figure out. A wreck caused by the victim speeding or failing to yield might look the same as one where the truck driver did, but the law would likely treat the two situations differently and the victim's options for getting help with their recovery might change accordingly.

For instance, if the truck driver was responsible--and that's "if," as I'm making no accusations--the victim might consider approaching the trucking company for help since its employee caused the injuries. If experience is any indication, however, the company is likely to have a different point of view and is unlikely to admit fault unless it's presented with clear and abundant evidence showing the victim's side of the story is the truth. Without all that proof, many victims have been rudely surprised when a trucking company effectively tells them to kick rocks.

I don't mean to say every trucking company is stubborn about fault, but I can say without exaggeration that in decades of doing this work I've encountered exactly one company that accepted liability without a fuss and did its best to make amends. It's an exceptionally rare thing, and because of that people hurt by a truck driver's negligence must prepare for battle. Will the necessary steps be taken here for the victim to be ready if the time comes?
