Commentary on Georgia Man Truck Accident on US 84 in Slaton

With a situation like this, my concern is always whether or not authorities actually gave it the attention it deserves. When it comes to single vehicle wrecks, they tend to just assume the driver was being reckless. Perhaps that is what happened here, but it's crucial to be as thorough as possible in case something unusual happened.

For example, it could be a situation like one I handled where a driver fell asleep at the wheel while trying to meet an unreasonable deadline. His employer more or less coerced drivers to cut corners and drive recklessly to meet these deadlines or else they'd lose their jobs. What seemed to be simple recklessness was actually a whole company that needed to clean up their act before more people got hurt.

I'm not saying that happened here, of course, but it's something worth considering. Mechanical issues, medical emergencies, tire defects, cargo shifts--even it seems unlikely, it's worth looking into to ensure the full story is clear.
