Commentary on Single-Vehicle Accident on Norris Street in El Campo
It's not unusual to see police bring up alcohol here if only due to how common alcohol is in late night single-vehicle wrecks. I certainly wouldn't suggest ignoring it, and it's even possible some local business out there illegally over-served the driver and is liable under dram shop for their role in the crash. That said, alcohol is just one possibility of many. Are authorities also looking into less common factors?

A big problem with single vehicle wrecks like this is folks immediately assume the driver must have done something wrong. That's likely, of course, but that's no excuse for overlooking things like mechanical issues, tire blowouts, road hazards, medical conditions, or even other drivers that left the scene. Blaming a driver isn't going to get them the help they need, so it's best to let the evidence speak for itself and not jump to conclusions. Whether or not authorities are actually taking those steps here remains to be seen. It's possible independent investigations would show there's more to this crash than folks may assume.
