Commentary on Tamara Russell Car Accident in Missouri City
It's obviously serious anytime authorities mention the possibility of alcohol. I certainly can't say more than what's available in the reports, so perhaps alcohol was not a factor here. If it was, though, then getting the victim the help they deserve could mean going through a local alcohol provider.
Put simply, Texas has dram shop law which says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Whether that's a bar, liquor store, restaurant, or even a gas station, a business violating these rules and contributing to such a serious crash needs to be held accountable for their actions. This can both help make the community safer while also providing some much needed assistance to the victims and families involved.
Unfortunately, dram shop is not the sort of thing authorities tend to look into on their own. That's why independent investigations are often more prudent in these situations. Are those steps being taken here?
