Commentary on Dylan Janecka Accident in Denton

Just to be clear up front, I've come across many reports where authorities brought up alcohol only for more thorough investigations to show other factors led to the crash. That's why it's always important to take these reports with a grain of salt and ensure experienced investigators look into things. Mechanical issues, tire defects, missing signage or lighting, medical conditions--likely or not, it's important to consider all possibilities.

Now, that being said, alcohol is a very common factor that also warrants consideration. This isn't just to throw blame around. It can be vital for those hurt in a serious crash like this. That's due to dram shop law, which says an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. In a college town like Denton, there is no shortage of establishments willing to put the community and even their own customers in danger. That's why, even if it's just to rule it out, alcohol should be among all of those possible factors a thorough investigation considers.
