Carrollton Man Injured in Truck Accident on Northwest Highway in Grapevine, TX
Grapevine, TX -- June 17, 2022, a Carrollton man was injured following an accident where a trailer hit by a truck collided into him.
Investigators were called to an area off the corner of Northwest Highway and Dove Road at around 3:22 p.m.
In reports, officials said that a 65-year-old Carrollton man was on foot outside of a truck and trailer combination. The truck was backing onto the roadway while the Carrollton man was reportedly directing the driver. As the trailer went into the road, it reportedly did so unsafely into the path of a westbound pickup, causing the pickup to hit the trailer. This pushed the trailer into the man nearby, causing incapacitating injuries. Right now, additional details about the crash are unavailable.
Commentary on Truck Accident on Northwest Highway in Grapevine
This series of events may be a bit more complex than people realize, given how many moving parts are involved. Generally speaking, there's an important factor when it comes to finding out who's responsible for an accident called proximate cause. Essentially, what was the factor that was more likely than not the cause of the victim's injuries? Based on these reports and depending on what other evidence further investigations bring to light, there could be a few possible causes.

For one, the reports suggest the victim was directing the truck backing onto the roadway. If he did so improperly, causing the truck to back onto the road thinking it was clear, then perhaps the victim's own actions led to his injuries. However, it's also possible the driver of the truck wasn't paying enough attention to the victim, who was actually trying to prevent the crash. That could mean the truck driver improperly backing out onto the highway is responsible. Alternatively, though, it's possible the two individuals backing the truck onto the road had every reason to believe they were doing so safely, and actions (or lack thereof) on the part of the truck driver that hit the trailer is what led to all of this. That driver supposedly doesn't remember what happened, according to the reports. Could that be a sign they weren't paying full attention to the road? Was the victim trying to wave down the approaching driver?
There simply isn't enough information in these reports to make a clear determination. But I wanted to show people how different explanations can make sense depending on the exact circumstances. There is no hard and fast rule for a crash like this. It comes down to the facts and what a potential jury would think looking at those facts. That's why getting as many of those facts in the hands of victims and families is a priority following any serious crash. I see no reason why this incident would be an exception.
