Trena Luna Killed in Motorcycle Accident in Odessa, TX

Odessa, TX -- June 26, 2022, Trena Luna was killed as the result of an accident where her motorcycle and another vehicle collided.

Investigators reported that the crash took place at around 5:30 p.m. along the 2700 block of East 8th Street, just off Business Loop 20.

According to reports, 37-year-old Trena Luna was on a motorcycle traveling westbound along 8th Street. Somehow, the motorcycle crashed into another vehicle.

Due to the collision, Luna sustained fatal injuries. Additional details surrounding the crash are unavailable at this time.

It's not entirely clear what happened here, and I can only hope the incident is getting the attention it deserves. Authorities mentioned the possibility of alcohol in recent reports, which is of course important to consider. That's especially true if a local alcohol provider illegally over-served the victim, since they could be liable under dram shop law. With that said, are other factors being considered?

A concern I have in these situations is whether or not the accident is being looked into with an unbiased eye. Too many people are quick to blame motorcyclists just because they assume riders are all reckless daredevils. I've helped enough riders and their families to know that, while those riders do exist, most motorcyclists are incredibly responsible. In fact, they tend to be the victims of larger vehicle drivers not keeping a proper lookout for them. Could the same be true here? It may take more thorough independent investigations to ensure the evidence can speak for itself.
