Commentary on Harrison Township Truck Accident

When a crash happens at a light-controlled intersection like the one where this reportedly occurred, folks may think determining who's to blame is as simple as finding out who had the green light and the right-of-way. That can be true, but sometimes it's more complex than that.

To make sure the whole story is learned and understood, it's important to dig deeper than just learning who had the green light. How fast were the vehicles going? Did one of the trucks malfunction or have a defect? Were both drivers awake, alert, and paying full attention to their surroundings? Is this intersection dangerous or somehow designed poorly? Did someone run a steady red light, or maybe try to beat a changing yellow one?

It may be some time before police get answers to some of those questions (if they even try to find them), but sometimes even that isn't enough. Police reports rarely tell the whole story, and getting the facts they miss may require independent professionals with state-of-the-art tools and plenty of experience. Whatever led to this terrible wreck, making sure the victim's loved ones know the full story is crucial. Will that effort be made here?
