Commentary on Tire Blowout Accident on I-35 in McLennan County
Just to be clear, authorities listing slick or defective tires as possible factors is almost always just standard procedure. There was a tire blowout, so those are possibilities to consider. Obviously, the most likely explanations are that something punctured the tire or that the tires needed to be replaced.

The latter is particularly important to consider with work vehicles, as the driver may not actually have control over their own maintenance. I've seen plenty of companies out there that would rather cut corners than keep their drivers safe, leading to serious maintenance-related crashes.
However unlikely, though, defects are also worth investigating. Not only would a manufacturer be on the hook for the crash, but they could even be putting other lives at risk if they don't recall the affected product.
Differentiating between these possibilities is a lot more complex than folks may realize. It's not the sort of thing authorities tend to prioritize, which is why it's likely best to ensure independent investigators look into things so those involved know they're getting the full story. Were those steps ever taken here?
