Commentary on Box Truck Accident on Fort Street in Wyandotte
To be rather blunt, it is highly unlikely brake failure actually led to this crash--at least in the sense that it was unpredictable and sudden. Most of the time, further investigations show that something like this was actually the result of typical things like distraction or speeding, and the supposed brake failure is just a smoke screen.

What's more, even if brake failure was a factor, the vast majority of such incidents are the result of neglected maintenance. That can lead to revelations of entire companies neglecting maintenance work, which of course warrants holding them accountable so they clean up their act before more people get hurt.
With all of that said, it would be irresponsible not to at least investigate the possibility of a mechanical defect. While rather unlikely, manufacturing issues have caused serious wrecks before, and they an certainly happen again. Police aren't usually equipped to handle something so intricate, which is just another reason more thorough independent investigations are so crucial in these situations. Getting people both the answers and the help they need means ensuring nothing important goes overlooked.
