Commentary on Charles Drouillard Pedestrian Accident in Houston

Police ruling out drunk driving is always important following an early morning accident. That's especially true in Houston, where alcohol causes all kinds of deadly accidents. But drivers are not the only ones worth looking into. I don't say this to cast the victim in a bad light. On the contrary, my concern is someone out there may be responsible for all of this who has yet to be held accountable.

Charles Drouillard Killed in Pedestrian Accident in Houston, TX

I'll give an example of why I say this. I had a family come to me a while back about their loved one struck by a vehicle on a highway. He was clearly where he shouldn't have been, and it was unusual behavior, to say the least. Well, our investigations showed that he'd been drinking at a bowling alley earlier in the night. Evidence revealed the establishment illegally over-served him despite the clear danger his obvious intoxication posed to himself and others. As a result, he was so intoxicated while walking home that he didn't realize he was walking into traffic.

That establishment's illegal and negligent over-service made them liable for the deadly accident under dram shop law. This is something that authorities overlook time and time again. That's why more thorough independent investigations often show there is more to a story than initial reports may let on. Could the same prove true here?
