Commentary on Rasean Jamerson Accident in Richardson
Folks are often quick to blame motorcyclists for accidents whether or not there's any proof or even sufficient detail in reports to say what really happened. Investigators certainly paint a picture of recklessness here, but I can't help but wonder if that was influenced at all by the victim's chosen vehicle..
Motorcyclists often get short-changed by the public after they crash. Unfair biases against them often mean they're blamed for wrecks that weren't really their fault. A crash caused by rider carelessness or impairment might look the same as one caused by vehicle failure or poor road conditions, but clearly the rider shouldn't be blamed in all of those scenarios.
That's why it's best not to jump to any conclusions as the picture comes into focus. In the meantime the victim deserves the benefit of the doubt and his loved ones deserve any answers they can get.
