Commentary on Motorcycle Accident on Walnut Glen in Harris County
It's possible police have specific reasons to suspect speed and alcohol as factors here. They are certainly important to consider, especially given the possibility there's a local bar responsible for over-serving the rider. But it's also important to keep in mind that folks tend to jump to conclusions when it comes to motorcyclist.
Motorcyclists are often seen as daredevils and reckless drivers, and unfortunately authorities can fall to these same biases. That's one of the reasons I'm so adamant about independent investigations. Not only could there be complex factors surrounding what happened here, but there could be factors that require experience and tools authorities don't have access to. If nothing else, getting the facts is a crucial step toward getting people the help they need, and I don't see a particular reason why this crash would be an exceptions to that.
