Commentary on Jovani Eduardo Acosta Truck Accident in El Paso County

Considering this is a rear-end collision, according to reports, folks will no doubt be content to take the details at face value. But time and time again, I caution people not to jump to conclusions. No one is automatically at fault for anything, and it's important to let the evidence speak for itself. Making sure all of that evidence is clear to the victims and families involved should be a priority.

Take for example a situation I was looking into not that long ago. Similarly, someone rear-ended a truck along the highway, dying as a result. That's all anyone knew for a while. After more thorough investigations, however, it was revealed that the truck driver involved had pulled off the shoulder into the victim's path without even turning their lights on. It would be absolutely ridiculous to blame someone for that just because they were unlucky enough to hit the back of the all-but-invisible truck.

Maybe nothing like that happened here, and maybe this crash is due to more common things like distracted or drunk driving. That's not for me to say. I simply wish to remind people that reports like these are rarely the whole story, and ensuring a victim's loved ones know the full story often requires more thorough independent investigations.
