Scooter Rider Injured in Crash with Pickup on Grape St in Abilene, TX

Abilene, TX — June 19, 2022, a man riding a rental scooter was struck and injured by a pickup truck along Grape Street in Abilene.

According to reports the incident happened around 10:20 p.m. along the 900 block of Grape Street. Preliminary investigation suggests a Dodge Ram pickup truck was northbound on Grape in the inside lane as a group of people on Bird rental scooters were traveling north in the outside lane. One of the scooter riders reportedly turned left into the path of the pickup, causing the collision.

The scooter's 17-year-old operator was transported to a local hospital where he was reportedly in stable condition. The pickup truck driver was unhurt.

The crash remains under investigation, but speed and alcohol are not thought to be factors.
